Law, Medicine, Nursing, and Health and Rehabilitation Sciences Graduates Return to IUPUI for ReunionMore than 800 alumni and friends are expected to return to IUPUI this weekend as four schools on the campus - the IU School of Law-Indianapolis, the IU School of Medicine, the IU School of Nursing, and the IU School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences - celebrate IU Alumni Weekend. Coming from across the United States, including Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Oregon, Virginia and Utah, alumni will be greeted by an event that urges all to "Remember. Return. Rediscover." To that end, special events are planned for the new or renovated facilities at IUPUI, including the Campus Center, the Resource Center for Innovation in Clinical Nursing Education, Reading Room of the Ruth Lilly Law Library - Inlow Hall, Canal tours starting at Fairbanks Hall, and hard hat tours of the IU Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center. Given the growth of the IUPUI campus, the two-day event promises to be an eye-opening experience for alumni who haven't visited the campus recently, said Danny Kibble, director of alumni programs. "Reunion Weekend is a great example that proves how far this campus has advanced." Featured educational topics from IUPUI Faculty are: * Mike Olinger, M.D., Medical Director of the Indy Racing League, Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine, IU Department of Emergency Medicine "High Velocity Motorsports Medicine." * Michael J. Pitts, Associate Professor of Law and Dean's Fellow, "The Voting Rights Act and the Era of Maintenance." * Linda Kelly Hill, M. Dale Palmer Professor of Law, "The Poetic Justice of Immigration." * Associate Dean, Pamela Jeffries (nursing) will provide demonstrations highlighting the latest breakthroughs in clinical simulation. Health and Rehab Sciences is hosting a non-faculty keynote speaker, Michael Weisskopf, Senior Correspondent, TIME Magazine's Washington DC bureau and author of Blood Brothers: Among the Soldiers of Ward 57. During the festivities, the alumni associations of the three schools will present Distinguished Alumni Awards, the highest honors bestowed by the associations. Distinguished alumni award recipients for 2008 are: Nursing - Dr. Victor Champion; Law - William R. Neale; and Medicine, Dr. Jean A. Creek and Vice Admiral, Adam Robinson (MD '76) - surgeon general of the Navy. Former IUPUI Chancellors Gerald Bepko and Glenn Irwin; and Craig Brater, IU Vice President and Dean of the IU School of Medicine are among those expected to attend the reunion. A complete schedule of planned activities is available at http://alumni.iupui.edu/reunion.html. |
