NATIONAL ART MUSEUM OF SPORT ONLY ART MUSEUM REPRESENTED IN SPORTS MUSEUM OF AMERICAThe National Art Museum of Sport (NAMOS) at University Place - IUPUI is the only art museum participating in the new Sports Museum of America (SmA) which opened May 7, 2008, at 26 Broadway in Lower Manhattan. In addition to a display in the new SmA Hall of Halls, NAMOS is represented by a selection of paintings and sculptures in the event space of the new museum. The NAMOS collection includes over 800 paintings, sculptures, and works on paper representing over 40 sports from archery to ice yachting. The art is exhibited in the public areas of University Place Conference Center on the downtown Indianapolis campus of IUPUI where it is viewed by 135,000 conference guests each year as well as the general public and school tours. Among the sport artists whose work has been loaned by NAMOS to the SmA are Muhammad Ali, Jacqui Blatchford, Joe Brown, Casper Buberl, James Fiorentino, Bernard Fuchs, Germain G. Glidden, Robert Handeville, Cecile Johnson, R. Tait McKenzie, Marc Mellon, Donald Moss, and C. W. Mundy. The Sports Museum of America is the nation's first and only interactive, multi-media all sports museum paying tribute to the history and excitement of all sports. SmA has partnered with more than 50 sports halls of fame, national governing bodies and other top athletic organizations to showcase exhibits, memorabilia, stories, and heroes that resonate with fans of all ages. Located in the heart of Lower Manhattan at the corner of Broadway and Beaver Streets, SmA is steps away from the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island ferries, Wall Street, South Street Seaport and the 9/11 memorial currently underway. |
