Blomquist Appointed Dean of the School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI

IUPUI Chancellor Charles R. Bantz is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor William Blomquist as the next Dean of the School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI, pending approval by the IU Board of Trustees.

Blomquist is currently a Professor of Political Science at IUPUI, and served as Chair of the Political Science Department from 1995 to 2002. During that time he also helped develop and lead the school's certificate program in paralegal studies and minor in legal studies. Blomquist also helped to establish the Bulen Symposium in American Politics at IUPUI which attracts considerable attention in the Indianapolis community. Blomquist is well known locally as an observer and commentator on politics and government, and has achieved international recognition for his research on water resource management and policy. He has served as a member of the Research Advisory Board of the National Water Research Institute for ten years, served on a committee of the National Research Council and has held appointments as a visiting scholar in universities in the United States and Europe. During this past Spring Semester, Blomquist held a Fulbright Distinguished Chair in Environmental Policy. Blomquist has received campus-wide teaching awards on three occasions since joining the IUPUI faculty in 1987.

Executive Vice Chancellor Uday Sukhatme, commenting on this appointment, said that he has very high expectations that scholarship in the School of Liberal Arts will be considerably enhanced and taken to new heights under the leadership of Professor Blomquist especially with critical distinguished faculty hires and the establishment of new doctoral programs in several departments.

William Blomquist will assume his new duties as Dean on July 1, 2008. He succeeds Robert White, who has provided superb leadership for the School of Liberal Arts since 2003 and will now return to full-time faculty service as Professor of Sociology.
