Four IUPUI Faculty Members Receive 2008 FACET Awards
Four Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis faculty members are among the 17 faculty from throughout the Indiana University system who are recipients of 2008 Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching (FACET) awards.
The annual FACET awards recognize faculty who have demonstrated their exceptional commitment to teaching and learning through self-evaluation, course preparation, research, instructional skills and student impact.
The 2008 FACET honorees at IUPUI are:
David Cowan Assistant Professor of Architectural Technology
Lisa Ehrmann Trustees' Lecturer of Psychology
Kathy Lay Assistant Professor of Social Work
Angela McNelis Associate Professor of Nursing
IU trustees, university administrators, FACET alumni, and special guests will honor this year's FACET recipients, along with the 2008 recipient of the P.A. Mack Award for Distinguished Service to Teaching, during the 20th annual FACET retreat. The retreat will take place May 16 to May 18, 2008, at French Lick Resort and Conference Center in French Lick, Ind.
FACET, an IU presidential initiative, is designed both to recognize and enhance outstanding teaching throughout the IU system and to promote continued development of teaching excellence among colleagues at IU and beyond.
"FACET faculty are among the most dedicated faculty focused on teaching and learning, and the big winners are the students in these faculty classes," says FACET Director David J. Malik, also the associate executive vice president of IU.
In recent years, FACET's efforts have expanded both at the campus level and statewide. FACET activities include the Leadership Institute, Associate Faculty and Lecturers' Conference, and Future Faculty Teaching Fellows Conference in partnership with IU Graduate School.
The 2008 recipients join a distinguished group of IU faculty members who have been chosen annually since the award's inception in 1989, bringing FACET's faculty membership to a total of 499 award-winning faculty, including 366 who are current full-time faculty. FACET alumni represent a cross section of faculty from virtually every discipline
