Leading Scientist Heads Dental School’s Research Day
Dr. Brian H. Clarkson, newly elected president of the American Association for Dental Research, will deliver the keynote address at the School of Dentistry's 16th annual Research Day, to be held on the first floor of the school on Wednesday, April 9, from 1 to 4 p.m.
His 45-minute talk, titled "A Cariologist and/or The Wizard of Oz," begins at 1:15 p.m. in room S116. Cariology is the study of dental caries (decay) and its prevention.
Clarkson is the Clifford T. Nelson Professor of Dentistry at the University of Michigan and former chair of the university's Cariology, Restorative Sciences, and Endodontics department. He holds a dental degree from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, and a Ph.D. from the University of London. He completed a pediatric dentistry residency at the University of Iowa.
Research Day will also feature dozens of IU-generated research posters, including projects that were recently presented by faculty, students, and staff at the American Association for Dental Research conference in Dallas. Of special interest this year are group poster presentations by researchers who are contributing to the dental school's new Tobacco Cessation and Biobehavioral Center.
Research Day is free and open to everyone on campus. For more information, contact Dr. Andréa Ferreira Zandoná c/o smcrum@iupui.edu.
