“Father of Environmental Justice” to Lecture at "Just Transportation" Seminar
The activist and college professor who has been called the "Father of Environmental Justice" will speak on justice in public transportation during a half-day seminar at IUPUI on April 11.
Robert Bullard, director of the Environmental Justice Resource Center at Clark Atlanta University, will be the keynote speaker for the "Just Transportation - New Routes to Equity and Opportunity," seminar scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2008, in Room 101 of Lecture Hall, located at 325 University Blvd. on the IUPUI campus.
A panel discussion featuring Indianapolis civic leaders will follow the keynote lecture.
Bullard's scholarship includes environmental justice, smart growth and transportation. A sociology professor at Clark Atlanta, Bullard is the author of 14 books, including "Dumping in Dixie" which is considered a seminal work in launching environmental justice as a movement and an academic field.
Bullard is a co-editor of "Highway Robbery: Transportation Racism and New Routes to Equity." According to an editorial review, "Highway Robbery," illustrates that transportation policy and urban planning contribute to racial and economic inequality.
