Maynard K. Hine Medallions Presented To Champions of IUPUI

A dean at IUPUI, a Marion County Superior Court judge, and a vice president of My Health Care Manager have been awarded the prestigious IUPUI Maynard K. Hine Medallion.

The Maynard K. Hine Medallion is presented to individuals who have had a unique and significant impact on IUPUI. Named for the first chancellor of IUPUI, who believed that a strong alumni program was essential, the award is presented annually at the IUPUI Alumni Leaders' dinner. The awards are sponsored by the IUPUI Alumni Council.

In supporting Nick Kellum's nomination for the Hine Medallion, IUPUI Chancellor Emeritus Gerald Bepko wrote, "there are relatively few people who have been at IUPUI since its beginnings and devoted their entire careers to it. One of those is our long-serving Dean of the School of Physical Education and Tourism Management."

"Nick has been a stalwart in the development of the IUPUI campus. He has participated in most every important event on campus, sometimes keeping a low profile, but at the same time very clearly playing a foundational role in the campus's growth and development…He's been persistent, effective, and noble in his role as champion for IUPUI."

Marion County Superior Court Judge Gerald S. Zore graduated from the IU School of Law - Indianapolis in 1968. He currently is in his fifth terms on the law school's Alumni Association Board of Directors. He chaired the 21st annual law school Alumni Banquet Committee and served as its master of ceremonies and is currently serving as the Executive Council Representative for the law school's constituency for the Indiana University Alumni Association.

Norm Lefstein, former dean of the IU School of Law - Indianapolis, wrote of Zore, "The award acknowledges significant contributions of alumni who have provided distinguished service to the campus and its alumni programs, and Jerry Zore is a most deserving recipient of this recognition."

Eric Tinsley, Vice President for Process, Technology and Training at My health Care Manager, was recognized for his "participation in, philanthropy to and passion" for the Purdue School of Science and its Department of Computer and Information Science.

Wrilliam F. Bostron, interim dean of the School of Science, wrote, "Tinsley is a leader among leaders, championing opportunities for the school and our alumni to engage in the community. Most recently, he brought to the school's alumni board an opportunity to participate in the New Tech High Indiana initiative."

Launched at Arsenal Technical High School this fall, the initiative is built on community involvement - with students learning in the workplace and volunteers teaching in the classroom. "It is an ideal model for our alumni, faculty and students" Bosron noted.
