Ng Selected as Acting Dean of Purdue School of Science
IUPUI Chancellor Charles R. Bantz announced today the selection of Bart Ng as Acting Dean of the Purdue School of Science at IUPUI.
Ng, who holds the Marvin L. Bittinger Chair in Mathematical Sciences at IUPUI and is IUPUI Faculty President, succeeds Dr. William F. Bosron, PhD, Chancellor's Professor and professor of biochemistry and molecular biology in the IU School of Medicine. Bosron has served as interim dean of the School of Science since August 2006. Bosron will return to his work at the IU School of Medicine and research with colleagues in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Indiana Alcohol Research Center.
"Bill Bosron has provided stability and launched a strategic planning process that is important to the future of the school," Bantz said. During his tenure, School of Science faculty successfully advanced six Signature Center proposals that were funded, he noted.
Bosron and Ng are in the process of planning a smooth transition, said Executive Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculties Uday Sukhatme.
Ng's distinguished stature in the field of Mathematics is reflected in the fact that he holds the Bittinger Chair, Sukhatme said. He was selected as the first holder of that Chair in 2004. This position was made possible by a generous gift from Marvin L. Bittinger, Professor Emeritus, Honorary, of the IUPUI Mathematics Department. Ng previously served as the chair of the Mathematics Department and was successful in attracting several top mathematicians to the department, Sukhatme noted. Ng also has played an active role with the IUPUI faculty council and is completing a second two-year term as its president.
Sukhatme said Ng emerged as a top candidate following extensive consultation with School of Science faculty and from feedback provided by faculty regarding the position.
