New Easier-to-Read, Expanded IUPUI Campus Map Available Online
The most up-to-date version of the official IUPUI Campus Map is now available online.
The 2008 Campus Map, available at www.iupui.edu/maps, is more user-friendly, featuring easier to read graphics; provides a more complete listing of current campus-owned and leased buildings; and includes more neighboring institutions.
Schools, departments and other campus units are encouraged to download the 2008 Campus Map to their Web sites.
"This should replace (out-dated) existing maps on all campus Web sites," says Steve Hodges, electronic communications manager in the Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM). The newly revised map is the collaborative work of the OCM electronic communications team and Campus Facilities Services.
Greater readability is the most noticeable upgrade to the official campus map, Hodges says.
"Subtle changes make finding what you are looking for easier," he said. "One of the changes included the superimposing of campus buildings on an aerial photograph of the campus. You can actually see the neighborhood."
The color scheme has also been simplified making it easier to see details such as the location of street lights.
In addition to artistic improvements, the new map covers a large area, and picks up new and on-going construction.
It includes Indiana University Buildings along the northern end of the Canal District, the newly opened IUPUI Campus Center, Clarian People Mover stops, and many neighboring institutions, including the Indianapolis Historical Society, and the Indiana Government Center. The map also clearly identifies construction zones.
The Campus Maps Web site also includes a campus housing map, directories of campus buildings arranged by code and building name; directions to local interstates, driving directions to campus, and other transportation related information.
Planned upgrades include the addition of parking and food service maps.
"The expanded campus map should help visitors to our campus and new faculty, staff and students alike better appreciate the closeness of downtown to our campus," says Scott Chevalier, IUPUI Webmaster and one of the maps designer. "Upcoming additions will include a revised parking map and another map highlighting campus shuttle and IndyGo routes through campus."
Users can now download PDF files in order to print copies of the electronic map. Printed versions of the map will be available from OCM later this year.
