Electronic Media Artists to Appear at IUPUI in Rare Indy Concert
Two of today's most respected multi-media performance artists will appear in concert Feb. 7, 2008, at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI).
Todd Reynolds and Luke Dubois will make a rare Indianapolis appearance for a concert at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7 in Concert Hall of the Informatics and Communications Technology Complex, 535 West Michigan Ave. The concert will be a multi-media extravaganza combining, video, electronics and virtuoso solo performing.
Cost is $10 for general admission, $5 for students.
Todd Reynolds is an American violinist and composer well-known for his work with amplified violin and electronics. A student of Jascha Heifetz and former principle of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Reynolds entered into the contemporary music scene in New York as a member of Bang on a Can and Steve Reich and Musicians.
Reynolds' playing has been critically acclaimed in both traditional and more pop-oriented mediums. He has collaborated and recorded with a wide range of artists, most notably Yo-Yo Ma, Todd Rundgren, Anthony Braxton, John Cale and Steve Coleman.
"Strings Magazine" has called Reynolds' music "a charming, multi-mood extravaganza, playful like Milhaud, but hard-edged like Hendrix," and says his countless premieres and performances of everything from avant-garde classical music to jazz to rock-'n'-roll seem to redefine the concert hall and underground club as undeniably and unavoidably intertwined.
Luke DuBois is a composer, artist and performer exploring the temporal and visual structures of pop-cultural ephemera. He has appeared on more than 20 albums, both individually, as a producer, and as part of the avant-garde electronic group The Freight Elevator Quartet. DuBois teaches interactive sound and video performance at Columbia University's Computer Music Center, New York University and the School of Visual Arts.
