Many IUPUI Grads Land Job Within Four Weeks

Nearly half of the IUPU undergraduate students who received their degrees in 2005-06 found a job just four weeks after graduating, according to alumni who responded to a campus survey.

The results of the 2007 IUPUI alumni survey showed that 80 percent of the students were employed within only four months of graduating.

Further, 90 percent said they were employed in Indiana, with the vast majority indicating they possessed skills employers identified as important, including effective communication, leadership and teamwork, complex thinking and ethical decision making.

"The alumni survey underscores the significant contributions to workforce development in the state by graduating students who are able to find jobs and who possess the skills that employers report are needed in today's economy," said IUPUI Chancellor Charles R. Bantz.

The students indicated that what they learned at IUPUI was an important factor in employment, with about 80 percent indicating their employment was directly related to or somewhat related to their majors. When asked how well IUPUI prepared them for their current jobs, 85% of the alumni responded "very well" or "somewhat

well." Approximately 90% of the alumni indicated that their IUPUI educations enhanced their future employment prospects.

Recent graduates were satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of the educations they

received at IUPUI (86%), the quality of teaching by faculty in their major fields (84%), the courses in their disciplines (78%), opportunities to integrate learning with their personal experiences (74%), and opportunities to work with other students in teams (67%).

In 2005-06, 3032 undergraduate students graduated. Completed surveys were received from 773 graduates
