August 7, 13 Career Demos to Bring Helicopters to IUPUI Campus
Career demonstrations on Tuesday (August 7, 2007) and Monday, August 13, 2007, will offer incoming IUPUI students opportunities to learn about career options in health care and public safety, respectively.
Both events will include a helicopter landing.
On Tuesday, August 7, about 75 nursing and other health care students will gather for a med flight helicopter demonstration from 3 to 4 p.m. on the intramural field between Blackford and New York streets.
A PHI Air Medical Group/St. Vincent's Dove Flight helicopter will land on the field at 2:50 p.m. The Dove Flight nurse and a paramedic will discuss medical equipment aboard the aircraft and educational requirements for air flight medical crews.
On Monday, August 13, the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI will host the Public Safety Career Day from noon to 4 p.m. in the courtyard of the University College building, located at 815 W. Michigan St.
Participants include the Indiana National Guard, The Indianapolis Fire Department, IUPUI Police Department, Wishard Hospital, Indianapolis and Indiana law enforcement, and Marion County emergency personnel.
The fair includes the landing of a Blackhawk helicopter between 11:15 and 11:30 a.m. Other participants include crews operating bomb disposal, chemical detention and SWAT vehicles; ambulance and patrol vehicle crews, and mobile communications units.
Both the med flight demo and the career fair are part of the IUPUI Summer Academy Bridge program.
The Bridge program, sponsored by University College at IUPUI, is designed to help entering students "jump-start their academic careers and hit the ground running," according to Jan DeWester, co-director of the program. The program is offered the last two weeks before the fall semester begins.
