Symposium on Mexican Immigration

INDIANAPOLIS - A symposium on Mexican immigration will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday in Room 115 at University College, 815 W. Michigan Street.
This educational event will be comprised of two moderated panels. The first panel will examine Mexico's culture of emigration and the legal issues faced by immigrants in the U.S. The second panel will focus on contemporary issues faced by Mexican immigrants in Central Indiana.
Panelists include Thomas Ruge from Lewis and Kappes, P.C., IUPUI professors Robert Aponte (Sociology), Maria Pabón López (Law), Monica Medina (Education), and Michael Snodgrass (History), and a representative from The Justice for Immigrants Coalition of Indiana. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Steve Jones of the IUPUI Center for Service and Learning.
The symposium is free and open to the public; light refreshments will be served.
IUPUI has a recently-formed campus-wide, Mexico interest group that is sponsoring this symposium, with support from the IUPUI Office of International Affairs and Campus & Community Life with a gift from the Efroymson Fund (a Central Indiana Community Foundation fund).
