June 20,
2008 — IUPUI has received a $200,000 award from Rolls-Royce Corporation to continue the design and testing of the next generation of aircraft engines, with a goal of creating cleaner, more efficient, and powerful engines. This is in addition to prior awards in 2006 and 2007 totaling approximately $380,000. The wave rotor combustion turbine engines could cut fuel usage and CO2 emissions in aircraft by 20 percent or more over traditional gas turbine engines being used today. They could also help make hypersonic flight to orbit more feasible.

April 21,
2008 — The two IUPUI Motorsports Club entries stunned the thirty-one West Lafayette campus entries in the 51st running of the Purdue Grand Prix on April 19, 2008. Jon Laski, an IUPUI Mechanical Engineering Technology major, led much of the race on his way to winning the race in the No. 25 kart.

2008 — When the 2008 Purdue Grand Prix starts at 2:30 p.m. Saturday (April 16, 2008), two IUPUI cars and their drivers, will take to the track along with 31 cars from the Purdue West Lafayette campus.

2007 — In May 2008, IUPUI and Winston-Salem State University will team up to offer "From Indy to the Carolinas," a two-week summer session course built around the strengths of the motorsports curricula of the two universities: the operations and management of motorsports at Winston-Salem State; and the engineering and technology of motorsports at IUPUI.
