2007 — When Governor Mitch Daniels decided earlier this summer to create a commission to examine and make recommendations on reforming and restructuring local government, he determined he needed two distinguished Hoosier to co-chair it and a group of experts to host and staff the commission. Daniels announced July 18, 2007, that Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard and former Governor Joe Kernan would co-chair the Blue-Ribbon Commission on Local Government Reform and it would operate under the auspices of the Center on Urban Policy and the Environment at IUPUI. The center will provide staff support and facilities for the commission.
