Empty Holster Protest at IUPUI

April 11, 2008 — During the week of April 21-25, 2008, IUPUI students will participate in the Second National Empty Holster protest here on campus. These students are members of the Students for Concealed Carry on Campus (SCCC) and will attend classes wearing EMPTY holsters. Request for Review of IUPUI’s NCAA Certification Self Study

March 24, 2008 — In September 2007 Chancellor Charles Bantz charged a steering committee of faculty, staff, students, and community representatives with the task of developing a self study that will enable IUPUI to maintain its certification by the NCAA Committee on Athletics Certification. All Division I athletics programs must undergo certification periodically. IUPUI received its initial certification for a full ten years in 1999. A peer review team will visit IUPUI September 24-26, 2008 to meet with a broad cross-section of the campus community and then provide recommendations to the NCAA Committee on Athletics Certification regarding IUPUI's certification.   Full Story

IUPUI Scientists Report First 3-D View of Anti-Cancer Agent

March 18, 2008 — Researchers from the Indiana University School of Medicine and the Purdue School of Science at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis have created the first three-dimensional image of how a well-established chemotherapy agent targets and binds to DNA. The study, which publishes online the week of March 17 in the Early Edition of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, may help scientists develop better chemotherapy drugs to treat a wide range of cancers.   Full Story

March 10, 2008 — IUPUI Executive Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculties Uday Sukhatme is pleased to announce the selection of Prof. Pratibha Varma-Nelson as the Executive Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning and Professor of Chemistry, pending approval by the IU Board of Trustees. Varma-Nelson is a Professor of Chemistry at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU), Chicago. For the past two years, she has been on academic leave from NEIU in order to serve as a Program Director in the Division of Undergraduate Education at the National Science Foundation.   Full Story

March 10, 2008 — IUPUI Chancellor Charles R. Bantz today announced the selection of Dr. Augustine (Austin) Agho as the Dean of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, pending approval by the IU Board of Trustees. Agho is currently the founding Dean of the School of Health Professions and Studies at the University of Michigan-Flint, a position he has held since 2001.

University Library to host Scholastic Book Fair for Local IPS Elementary School

Feb. 6, 2008 — After being closed for 25 years, IPS Wendell Phillips Elementary School 63 reopened in 2006 to the Haughville Community to help educate over 500 K-6 grade students on the Near Westside. The renovated school is a valuable asset in the community and continues to grow. However, the elementary school's current library resources do not adequately support the library media program that is integral to the School 63's curriculum.
